Double Gold for Katie at the North of England Championships.18th June 2011

It’s Double Gold for Katie Byres at the North of England Championships at Sportcity, Manchester. 17/18th June 2011.

On Saturday 18th June 2011 Katie went one better than last year and won the North of England Under 20 title. This competition , for one reason or another, ended up indoors. Katie won with a height of 4m 05. She attempted a new British Indoor Under 20 Record of 4m 15 but after two failed attempts she decided to finish the competition knowing she had the senior title to compete for the following day.

On Sunday 19th June 2011 Katie won her second Gold of the weekend in the North Of England Seniors  jumping a slightly disappointing 3m 90. Three athletes finished on 3m 90 but Katie won on countback. The wind conditions were not ideal but Katie was very happy with her two gold medals.

As well as wanting to win the titles Katie treated the competition as practice for the European Championships that she is hoping to gain selection for. At the Europeans there will be a qualification event and then two days later the final.

Katie also met Jessica Ennis MBE, The World Heptathlon Champion at the championships.

It’s back to training for Katie this week as she aims to be on top form for next weekend’s  AAA England U20 Championships and European Championship Trials in Bedford
